The novel To Kill A Mockingbird has taught me a lot. There are many lessons and points made throughout the story reflecting on society. The main thing that this book has taught me is that families will hurt anyone that is an outsider to keep their families reputation, which is really disappointing to realize because everyone wants to think that most people wouldn't care and stick up for Innocent people being harmed by society, but a majority of people don't. Also i realized how much African-Americans had to try to fit into both groups like Calpurnia when she talked with perfect grammar towards Atticus's family but when she was with her friends she talked like the rest of them.
I couldn't really relate to the book because my parents aren't lawyers, I'm not from Alabama and I'm not all old and country, I'm an Olympian which is far from people from Alabama. Pretty much the whole novel was completely different from my life so that made the book more interesting for me because it shows how much different life is all over the world. So in a way the book did mean something different to me than the author intended but my special meaning of the book didn't have anything to do with being able to relate to the characters but just the curiosity of reading about life back then and seeing the chances over time.
